Eight years ago, Scott and Gaby shared one very special night. Not wanting to ruin their friendship, they didn't take things further...but neither of them has forgotten.

When Scott’s friends stage an intervention to make him realize that his fiancĂ©, Victoria, is all wrong for him, he takes time to evaluate his life. He’s earned a big promotion and just bought his dream

car, but those things are just superficial. The one time he was truly happy, was with Gaby.

Gaby is in a good place in her life. She loves her job, has the best friends and family a girl could ask for, and is dating a sweet and sexy guy, but she’s never stopped thinking about that night with Scott.

Eager to find happiness again, Scott makes a plan to win Gaby’s heart during a weekend getaway, but she doesn’t want to be his rebound girl. Will 42 hours be enough to convince Gaby that it's finally
their time for love?

Excerpt

“The other night, at the bar, right before the band started…. You came back from the bathroom,
looking all flushed and embarrassed. Then you downed TJ’s beer… I’d meant to ask you about it then, but the music came on, and we all got distracted. Did something happen?”
I flushed at his question, as I remembered the scene that had gotten me all flustered.
“Oh… God… I just,” I felt like such a child, I could barely even talk about it, and it wasn’t as if
I’d walked in on them having sex or anything. “I ran into Brock’s brother Brendan … The lead singer. Anyway, he and some girl were going at it pretty hot and heavy in the hallway.”

“Oh,” Scott looked at me suddenly, then cleared his throat and looked back out the windshield. “So
you were embarrassed?”

I let out a nervous laugh and admitted, “Yeah, because I was taken by surprised, and I kind of, um,
stood there and watched for a minute. Then, Brendan caught me, and said hi, like it was no big deal. I just felt like a prude.”
   “Hmmm,” Scott began,
as if unsure what to say next. “Have you never been in that situation before?”

I averted my eyes, then responded softly, “What? Practically having sex in a bar? No.”

“No,” Scott said, his voice rough. “Where you’ve been so in the moment, that you couldn’t control
yourself, and didn’t care if you got caught or not.”

I squirmed in my seat, his words affecting me more than they probably should. My body felt warm,
so I turned up the AC a bit and pointed the vent in my direction.

“No,” I admitted, my voice barely audible.

When Scott didn’t respond, I started to worry that he thought I was referring to the night that
he and I’d slept together, so I blurted, “Oh… I wasn’t trying to say that you and I didn’t have passion…”

I felt the blush roll over my face like a heat wave.

“I mean, it was our first time… And it was lovely…” Shit, I was digging in deeper. “What I meant
was that I’ve never had someone take me up against the wall in the club like that.”

Oh. My. God. Had I just said that. I wanted to melt into the floorboards.

I brought my hands to my face, hiding my mortification.

Blog Roll ~ Learn More About Me and My Process

Happy Monday!

I was invited by Benjamin Moore to participate in a Blog Roll. It's always fun to talk about the writing process, and what I'm working on, so I was happy to accept.

Benjamin was asked to participate by Christa Yelich-Koth. I met both of them at the Southern California Writers' Conference in San Diego. This is a wonderful conference that is held in San Diego every February. If you've never been, and have the opportunity to go, I highly recommend it!

In this blog roll writers answer five questions about themselves, then introduce three more writers, who in turn roll the questions to three more.

1. What am I working on right now?
I'm currently writing book 4 in my Time for Love series, 15 Minutes. This book details the relationship between Brock, a self-made man who raised his brothers and his parents' death, and Victoria, a spoiled debutante who wants nothing more in life than to be a trophy wife. It is such a blast for me to write a character who readers have hated in the first three books, and try to get them to not only understand her, but to root for her HEA.
I'm also finalizing a short story that I'm contributing to a Mermaid Anthology. A group of authors are putting it together in hopes of a December release. All proceeds will go to charity. It's a lot of fun to combine my love of contemporary and fantasy, like I did when I wrote Nissa: a contemporary fairy tale

2. How does my work differ from others in the genre?
I like to write about realistic situations, not just kids going to college and living on campus. In fact, only one of my New Adult books takes place at college. I love those books too, but not all people attend college, and I think there is a market for these books as well. I experienced a little bit of everything at that age: I attended a University, went to Community College, worked various jobs, and eventually entered the military. I try to incorporate a little bit of everything into my writing.

3. Why do I write what I do?
I love writing about relationships. In my YA books I focused on the friendships, siblings, and relationship between parents and children. I also incorporated Romance, which is a fundamental theme in everything I write.
In my NA books, I've focused on the relationship between the couple, but there is always a supporting cast of friends. I love to write about multiple characters and interweave their stories into each book, that is why I think writing series is so much fun.
Like I said, I love to write about realistic situations. I also try to come up with story ideas that mean something to me. I've written about a single parent, child abuse, domestic violence, cheating, and separation, but I've also covered lighter topics.

4. How does my writing process work?
I basically get an idea, then sit down and start writing it. I write in sequential order, but I don't outline. I let the story flow through me as it comes. Sometimes I get ideas for the direction I'd like the story to go, and I jot those down in a notebook, but I don't sit down with a concrete storyline.

5. How does my writing process not work?
I don't have an outline set up, so sometimes the story ebbs and flows. Some days I sit down and write a couple chapters, and other days I don't write a word. I just take it as it comes and don't put pressure on myself. After all, I do this because I love it, so I don't treat it like a task or chore, I look at it as an outlet.

Well… that's me! Check out the three writers I picked to see how they answer these questions.

1. Kristi Strong is a fabulous writer and wonderful friend, stop by her blog to check out her work.

2. Nikki Jefford is a sweet friend and amazing writer, check out her answers to the five questions.

3. Leigh Talbot Moore is an amazing writer and friend, check out her blog. I especial like her post on being an Independent.

After Star Except:

The house smelled like I’d just walked into a Tuscan Villa. Roasted tomatoes and pasta
with… I inhaled again, sautĂ©ed portabella mushrooms, yum. My stomach rumbled.
James bent over to get two plates heaped with yumminess out of the oven. The
sight of him in his cream colored apron and those tight Wrangler jeans made it
a toss-up as to what I was hungrier for, him or the pasta. He set the plates on
the stove top, and I closed the distance between us. I threw my arms around his
neck and kissed his throat. “I am so in love with you right now.”
His arms squeezed me closer. “Hmm, are you sure it isn’t the food talking?”
I laughed. “It might’ve added more to your charm tonight than usual.”
“That hungry, huh?” The silver streaks in his eyes conveyed his double meaning, leaving me at
a loss for words as my stomach fluttered, and I blushed.
“Eww you guys. Get a room,” Erika said, pushing us playfully out of her way. “So does the
teacher get any dinner? I worked hard, too, so stop ogling each other, and feed
me.” She grinned.
We chuckled, and he handed her a plate. She sat at the table and dug in. My stomach twisted in
hunger as I watched her. That blending-in-with-nature exercise was energy
zapping work. I hadn’t been this hungry in a while.
James stroked my cheek. “You better eat, too. Sounds like progress was made, and it carved a
hole in both of your stomachs.” The hopefulness in his voice made me glad I
hadn’t failed today’s lesson.
“I did have a little success.” I teased him with my vagueness. Smiling sweetly at him, I
grabbed my plate and joined Erika, who was smirking behind her glass of water.
“Out with it you two.” James sat next to us. “From the way you both are grinning, and the fact
that you are hours late tells me something big happened.”
“Go ahead,” I said to Erika, who was bursting to share the news.
“Tayla, blended with a fir tree! She did such a great job, I had to coach her back to her human
rhythm.” Erika plopped a forkful of pasta between her lips, her eyes glowing
with pride.
James’ mouth fell open. “No?”
Erika’s smile grew, and she swallowed. “I am so glad you found her and brought her into the
pack, James. I will finally have someone to teach all my secrets to.”
My lips stretched into a full blown smile. “James, did you hear that! We can train
together. This is going to be fun!”
Erika threw James a sarcastic smile, and they both looked at me with amusement. “What? I am
just excited.” Finally, I was good at something werewolf.
“We aren’t laughing at you, Tayla. I was just teasing James. You see he has talent, but
nothing like the raw skill you possess to master it like I have,” Erika said.
“I have never fully melded my rhythm with anything. I am excellent at mimicking, but could
never understand the depth Erika always spoke of. It is truly an amazing gift
you have, Tayla.” He touched my knee and looked at me with such admiration that
I blushed.
“Really, it was Erika. I couldn’t have done it without her guiding me. I’m not really even sure
I can do it again.”
“Oh, she’ll do it again.” Erika winked at me. “She’s experienced the high and is now addicted.
I don’t know, James, you might lose her to the forest.”
“Then I’ll just have to entertain her better.” He gave me a wicked grin.
“You’re in a mood,” I whispered, needing to fan my flushed cheeks and settle my fiery nerves.

Release Day Blitz for Hot-Blooded by Kendall Grey

Title: Hot-Blooded (The ‘Ohana Series, book 1)
Author: Kendall Grey
Publish Date: July 14, 2014

‘Ohana is everything…

When an accident claims her mother’s life, Keahilani Alana must take charge of her `ohana(family) or risk losing what little they have. With an underage brother to care for and no education, she has few options. The door to a heavenly hellish opportunity opens when she stumbles upon a valuable secret her mother left behind on the slopes of an extinct volcano—a legacy that tempts the family with riches beyond their wildest dreams. But the secret is much bigger and more sinister than they realize. As reality unravels and exposes eerie truths about the ‘ohana that should have remained deep under the mountain, Keahilani must either resist the call of her blood or risk being consumed by its darkness.

Blake Murphy is an assassin working to infiltrate a new Hawaiian cartel. His investigation reveals that Keahilani, the sexy surfing instructor he pegged as an informant, is much closer to the drug ring than he thought. Passion ignites between them in the bedroom, but their ironclad ties to opposing interests pit them against each other everywhere else.

When tensions reach the breaking point and her ‘ohana is threatened, the only cure for Keahilani’s hot-blooded fury is a loaded clip with a body bag chaser.

They don’t call her Pele for nothing
WARNING: HOT-BLOODED does NOT end with a happily ever after. It contains drug use and graphic sex, language, and violence. The story is intended to entertain, not to condone or glorify illegal or immoral activities. This book is unsuitable for sensitive readers and those under the age of 18.

*Written in 3rd person with multiple POVs.

1. HOT-BLOODED is a cross between Point Break, The Sopranos, and Twin Peaks. So, if you like surfing, gangster-style grit with a side of psychological suspense, this one might be right up your alley.

2. HOT-BLOODED’s heroine, Keahilani Alana, is a Hawaiian surfer chick with skeletons (and some other dark, bump-in-the-night baddies) in her closet. She’s strong-willed, independent, and more than willing to use force to get her point across.

3. The tagline for HOT-BLOODED is “‘Ohana is everything,” and boy is it EVER! ‘Ohana means “family” in Hawaiian, and this book explores the nature of family—good, bad, and deadly—on many levels.

4. It’s set on the lush island of Maui where every color of the rainbow rules—and where terrifying shadows exist in places you least expect them.

5. HOT-BLOODED is loosely connected to Kendall’s JUST BREATHE urban fantasy series. You don’t have to have read those books to enjoy this one, but JUST BREATHE readers who do a little digging may notice some subtle connections. There’s a reason for that. Stick with the ‘Ohana series to find out more! :-)

Kendall Grey is the self-appointed past, present, and future president of the Authors Behaving Badly Club. A whale warrior and indie freedom fighter, she spends summers in the corner (usually with a dunce cap on her head) and winters hunched at the peak of Mt. Trouble, fiery pens of fury (complete with invisible ink) flying across the pages. She has a big set of cajones, and she's not afraid to use them. In her spare time, Kendall speaks your mind so you don't have to.
