Five Questions with Tania Penn

1      When you think of your favorite books, what is it that draws you to them and makes you want to read them over and over again?

Either it’s the world that they transported me to, the action that I want to re-live, or just those hot, naughty, steamy  sex scenes!!!!

2      Did you consciously decide to write the genre you write, or did it choose you?

With The Morning Star, my first YA novel, I made a conscious decision that my first story was going to be that, YA.  But, I also decided I wasn’t going to pigeon-hole myself into one genre -- as it is, I am currently almost done completing my first NA novel, and I have a comedy/horror, a thriller, a sci-fi, a horror-erotica, a funny romantic comedy from a male point of view, a dystopian post-apocalyptic one, among others!!

 

3      If you could sit down for a drink and a chat with any writer, who would it be, and why?

I would find a time machine, go back to 1990 and bump into JK Rowling on her train and ask, “So...what is this Harry Potter idea you are writing?  Tell me about it?”  then slip her a mickey in her drink!  Kidding...(maybe a little!)

 

4      When you are not writing (or reading) what is your favorite pastime?

I live in Washington state, so there are a plethora of outdoor activities to partake in -- a daytime jaunt to Mt. Ranier, go take a hike in the Olympics, take out the kayak on the lake, paddleboarding, snowboard in Snowqualmie or Whistler, or just head south to Cannon Beach in Oregon for a relaxing weekend.

 

5      At what point were you sure that your book was ready to be published, and how did you go about making it happen?

When I got to the bottom of my martini glass, and after almost 400 pages, realizing it was fin, finito, done!!  After some revising, I uploaded it to Amazon :)
